Wangfujing Bookstore - 王府井书店
Introduction: One of Beijing's biggest bookstores has travel guides, maps, English language novels, self-help/business tomes, kids' books, Mandarin-learning materials, art books and sheet music. Weekend lectures (usually in Chinese) are held on the fourth floor.

Beijing Foreign Languages Bookstore - 北京外文书店
Introduction: For foreign-language books, the aptly named Foreign Language Bookstore is the largest and most diverse book store in town. You'll find imported fiction and non-fiction, locally published foreign language books, Mandarin-and English-learning texts, sheet music and more. English predominates, but there also sizeable Spanish, French and German sections.

Beijing Friendship Store - 北京友谊商店
Introduction: Quite an easy target for trash-talk-only starry-eyed tourists browses through these almost laughably overpriced goods. Currently, the store's only redeeming feature seems to be its foreign-language books selection, which features the most recent English copies of Times, Newsweek and National Geographic.

Beijing Star Kids Children's Bookstore - 北京市佳星孩趣儿童书店
Introduction: This English Children's bookstore sells a range of soft- and hardcover books from big-name publishers in the US, Canada, Australia, Italy and England. Kids up to the age of 16 should be able to find something that tickles their fancy there. Francophiles may be interested in the small selection of French-language study materials.

Introduction: Prices are generally a bit higher than those at the Foreign Language Bookstore, but the selection of fiction and children's books at this place is unbeatable. The kids' books there are fabulous and include a vast number of Dr Seuss books as well as Maisie, Thomas & Friends, Dora the Explorer, Clifford, etc. and even Kaplan review books for older kids preparing to take the SATs or GREs.

Ivy Kids Book Club
Introduction: The Ivy Kids Book Club offers over 1,400 titles suitable for children between 0 and 6 years old. The book club offers a cozy environment and guided reading lessons for a range of reading abilities. The book club is open to the general public, although students of Ivy Academy and Ivy Bilingual have priority in joining. Membership is RMB 400/year for individuals and RMB 600/year for families.

Introduction: Venture to Wudaokou for this child-friendly, elegant bookstore. You'll find no piano player or gunslingers here only couches and glasstop worktables providing a nice place to read. The children’s books and workstations make this a great spot to relax with the kids. Regular film screenings every Wed and Sat evening at 7pm.
